Established in 1997, the Department of Educational Technology at Tamkang University is the first academic unit in Taiwan dedicated to the systematic study and development of educational technology. The department was founded in response to the growing impact of digital technologies on learning environments and aims to advance both theoretical research and practical innovation in technology-enhanced learning.

The department’s research integrates perspectives from education, communication, management, and information technology, forming an interdisciplinary framework for investigating how emerging technologies transform teaching, learning, and organizational training. Faculty members and graduate students actively engage in research areas such as technology-enhanced learning, instructional design, e-learning, educational data analytics, learning experience design, and innovative learning environments. Particular attention is given to the design and evaluation of e-learning systems, AR/VR/MR development, AI-enhanced learning and instruction, and data-informed educational decision-making.

To support these research directions, the department offers Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs that emphasize both academic inquiry and applied innovation. Graduate students participate in research projects related to e-learning design, AI-enhanced learning and instruction, and technology-supported professional training. The department also promotes collaboration with schools, industries, and public organizations, enabling research outcomes to inform real-world educational practices.

Since its establishment, the department has cultivated over 2,000 graduates who contribute to diverse professional fields including e-learning development, human resource training, educational research, and AI-driven project management. Through continuous research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and engagement with emerging technologies, the department strives to advance the field of educational technology and support the transformation of learning in the AI era.
